Another angle of one of Zion's most famous hoodoos.
High Desert Rains
Rains pass by on the edge of the Colorado Plateau.
Lush vegetation hides in the shade and security of a constant water source.
Cascades of Kanarraville
In a more open area of Kanarraville canyon the creek cascades down a series of ledges.
Kanarraville Creek is much smaller than the Virgin River but shares nearby headwaters and cuts through some of the same rock.
Kanarraville Creek 2
Guiding lines in canyon walls lead towards a sunny spot in the trees
Kanarraville Creek 3
Sunlight shimmers on the water after it emerges from a dark canyon.
Edge of Kolob
The edge of the Kolob Terrace where it drops away to Smith Mesa
Cave Valley Hoodoo
Another notable Hoodoo in Cave Valley. Since this picture was taken it's possible this land was part of a parcel sold to a private individual, and no longer belongs to the public.
Purple Iron Plates
In a remote part of Zion National Park, iron rich plates of rock rest cleanly on bare sandstone.
Zion's High Wildlands
My favorite places in the world are in Zion's wild highlands and high wildlands. It reminds me at times of exploring the stone version of a glacier.
A huge stone basin full of mesmerising cross bedding and virtually free of vegetation.
A striking seam of cross bedding.
Stone carved by water begins to take on the appearance of water in the form of waves on a rough sea.
Winter Lodge View
Winter Cottonwoods contrast at Zion's Lodge with shady canyon walls.
Snowy Pines at Emerald Pools
I was fortunate enough to go hiking to Emerald pools after a major snow storm. I was unfortunate enough that after this point the trail was closed due to dangerous ice and fallen trees. Still a beautiful day.
The Great White Throne
A cloak of snow makes the Great White Throne loom more like the Great Yellow Throne.
i found this arch in the back of a hidden, little known canyon. I don't see a name for it or any sign of it in the Arch Database, so i might get to name it unless someone tells me what the name is.
